Addiction Recovery Blog

Evidence-based articles written by addiction specialists, licensed therapists, and recovery professionals to guide your path toward lasting sobriety

Choosing treatment, supporting a loved one, or understanding addiction itself can feel overwhelming — especially when most of what you read online is either oversimplified or written to sell something. Our blog exists to fill that gap. Every article published here is grounded in current clinical research, written or reviewed by licensed clinicians, therapists, or peer-recovery specialists, and edited for plain English. We cover the science behind substance use disorder, how to evaluate rehab programs, what to expect at each level of care, and the day-to-day realities of long-term recovery for both individuals and families.

We update existing articles when treatment guidelines change, cite peer-reviewed sources where claims could affect treatment decisions, and clearly mark the difference between established evidence and emerging research. If a topic is contested in the field — for example, the role of medication-assisted treatment versus abstinence-only programs — we present the trade-offs rather than picking a side.

Our Editorial Standards

Decisions about treatment carry real consequences. These are the principles we hold every article to before it goes live.

Clinical review
Every article touching diagnosis, withdrawal, medication, or therapy methods is reviewed by a licensed clinician — typically an LCSW, LMFT, or addiction medicine physician — before publication.
Sourced claims
Statistics and clinical claims link to primary sources — SAMHSA, NIDA, peer-reviewed journals, or guideline-issuing bodies like ASAM. We don't paraphrase second-hand summaries.
Person-first language
We write “person with substance use disorder,” not “addict.” Word choice matters: stigmatizing language has been shown to discourage people from seeking treatment.
