Intensive Outpatient Treatment Centers

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) provide a higher level of care than standard outpatient while allowing patients to live at home. Programs typically require 9-20 hours per week of treatment, including group therapy, individual counseling, and skill-building sessions.

About Intensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) provide structured, evidence-based treatment while allowing you to live at home. NW Recovery Centers connects you with IOP programs offering flexible morning and evening schedules.

How IOP Works

A typical IOP schedule includes:

  • 3-5 sessions per week, 3-4 hours each
  • 9-20 total hours of treatment weekly
  • Group therapy as the primary modality
  • Individual counseling sessions
  • Skill-building workshops (coping skills, triggers, communication)
  • Drug testing and accountability check-ins

IOP vs. Other Levels

IOP is more intensive than standard outpatient but less restrictive than residential or partial hospitalization. It's ideal as a step-down from residential treatment, as an alternative to inpatient for those with work/family obligations, or as a step-up when standard outpatient isn't enough.

What to Look For

Choose programs with licensed addiction counselors, evidence-based curricula (CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing), convenient scheduling options, and a clear plan for transitioning to aftercare once the IOP phase is complete.
