Northwest Recovery Centers is firm in its belief that chemical dependency is a primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. The disease is often progressive and fatal. Additionally, it is often characterized by impaired control over drinking or drug use, preoccupation with alcohol and/or other drug use, continued use despite adverse consequences and distortions in thinking, most notably denial.
Northwest Recovery Centers' philosophy on the treatment of chemical dependency is grounded in the belief that, in order to be in recovery, an individual has to move from denial to acceptance, acceptance into action and ultimately into prevention. Patients also need to come to terms with the need to have initial and ongoing assessment to develop and treat bio/psycho/social problems that are barriers to long-term abstinence.
